While a few years have passed since her competitive softball playing days, Burbank Mayor Marsha Ramos recently returned to Tomahawk Field at John Burroughs High School to show that she can still deliver a pitch and connect in the batter’s box.

Along with Councilman Gary Bric and a roster of actors and actresses, Ramos, who played for the Indians softball team during her days at Burroughs, recently took on the school’s staff in a charity game to raise funds for the Burroughs softball program.

The second annual Celebrity Softball Game that pitted the celebs against the staff commenced with Mayor Ramos throwing out the first pitch. Among the Burroughs staff who then took to the field were Norman Aguelles, Todd Berry, Kristina Garcia, Scott Hatch, Vicky Oganyan, Richard Piper, Mike Silva, Art Sullivan, Jill Tobin, Randy Tobin, Hung Truong and John Tyler.

Over in the celebrity’s dugout, Ramos rallied her team that included Corbin Bleu of “High School Musical,” and Marcelo Tubert, Maiara Walsh and John D’Aquino of “Cory in the House.” Other celebrities who participated in the lineup were Graham Shiels and Hadeel Sittu of “General Hospital,” retired World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler Chyna, Julio Oscar Mechoso who played the mechanic in “Little Miss Sunshine,” and Chuck Hoyes, Mirelly Taylor, John Littlefield, David Reivers, Carmen Argenziano, Nadine Stenovich, Leo Levato, Omid Abtahi, Sarah McElligott and birthday girl Eileen Grubba who have appeared in numerous films and television shows.

In the fifth inning, the event’s master of ceremonies and announcer, Bryan Suits of KFI-AM (640) radio station, called the play as Councilman Bric tried to stretch a single into a double and slid into second base bruising a rib or two.

“I seemed to forget that I hung up my glove and cleats 30 years ago,” Bric said with a laugh. “Now I know why. (But) I had a great time regardless (and) can’t wait for next year.”

Coordinated by Yvonne and Richard Colon, the charity game was made possible by the help of numerous volunteers including Leslie Budrick, Stan Buliavac, Rudy Casillas, Jacqueline Collard, Mary Dalley, Luis Gomez, Kathy Hodgins, Darrell King, Bea Klawitter, Maria Odio, Debbie Geraci, Gail and Irv Peters, Robert and Cheryl Reichelderfer, Marissa Simile, Paul Ohrt, Steve Spear, Kelly Zubia and Steven Garcia.

Among the current Indian softball players that were on hand for the game, that ended with the staff edging out the stars by a score of 18 to 15, were Varsity Team members Vanessa Simile, Shelly Klawitter, Brianna Casillas, Liz Hanna, Emily Odio, Cassie Colon, Lizzie Peters, Amanda Collard, Brittni Spear, Katie Budrick, Kerry Hodgins, Taylor Buliavac, Casey Reichelderfer, Anissa Lopez and Jena Serranzana.

Also in attendance were Junior Varsity Team members Yevette Mendoza, Carlee Mersola, Elena Gomez, Jessica Rodriguez, Kayla Dalley, Angela Parker, Hallie White, Miranda Castaneda, Michelle King, Kaycee Tashjan, Alicia Garcia, Briana Zubia, Constance Innocent and Quinn Rodriguez. Others on hand were Tawnie Ohrt, Shianne and Shantae Fuller, Tim Dow and Burroughs Seniors Lauren Lombari, Joann Lebrun, Lauren Steffey, Azja Turner and BrittneyHoover.
