OLIVE PARK — The temperature wasn’t the only thing blazing on Saturday at Olive Park.

Along with the heat that reached the mid-90s, there were some sizzling performances in the skills competition at the 52nd Burbank Civitan Club Baseball Jamboree.

Sponsored by the Burbank and Foothill Civitan clubs, the event involved Hap Minor Baseball players from the city’s Park, Rec- reation and Community Services Department.

The day began with a parade from the Burbank Towncenter Mall that made its way to Olive Park for a skills competition.

The day of events Saturday marked the end of the season for the city’s premiere baseball league. Nearly 800 players from 61 teams took part in the annual festivities.

In the skills competition, players competed in four events — hitting for distance, throwing for accuracy, baserunning and throwing for distance — and won awards for their accomplishments.

In addition to the competition, the players also enjoyed food and refreshments.

Luke DiSimone of the Burbank Music Academy Yankees was given the Jackie Arrington Memorial Award. Every year, the honor is given to an athlete who displays good sportsmanship, team leadership and an enjoyment for the game.

Just like their baseball counterparts, athletes from the park and recreation’s Ponytail Softball leagues will take part in their own end-of-the-year event Saturday at Olive Park.

The Hap Minor Baseball and Ponytail Softball organizations are the longest running leagues of their kind in the city and contain the most participants. SHOWING THEIR SKILLS Find out which Hap Minor Baseball players came out on top in the skills competition. See Page B2
