CHARITY LEAGUE PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS

The National Charity League Inc. Glendale Chapter presented seven scholarships at the organization’s Annual Meeting at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.

Those receiving $1,000 scholarships were Tatevik Mirzakhanvan of Clark Magnet School, Holly Stevens of Crescenta Valley High School, Gohar Khechumyan of Glendale High School, Amy Drummond of Hoover High School and Joy Hernandez and Ankin Boghos of Glendale Community College. Lily Vartanyan of La Cañada High School was also an award recipient.

The scholarships are given to girls who show superior academic performance, exceptional community service, a history of volunteering, campus leadership, responsibility and integrity and are goal-oriented, said Mary Jane Rittichier, scholarship chairwoman.


Mirzakhanvan will be attending UCLA next fall, majoring in global studies and English. Tatevik is a long-term volunteer for the Glendale Adventist Hospital, Glendale Rose Float Assn. and the Pacific Branch Library. Stevens will be attending Occidental College in the fall, majoring in business administration. She ranked ninth in a class of 706 students. She plays the clarinet and was head of her section in the high school band.

Khechumyan will be attending UC Irvine, majoring in biology with a minor in psychology. She has donated hundreds of volunteer hours to the Glendale Community Free Health Clinic.Drummond is headed for Pepperdine University where she will major in biology. She ranked No. 2 in her class of 511 students. Hernandez is pursuing a degree in business at Glendale Community College with a minor in economics. She will be attending Cal State Northridge in the fall. Working since her high school days to help support her family, she has volunteered in the community for years. She informs prospective students about GCC business and finance programs, is a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma and the Assn. of Latin American Students. Her career goal is to educate families about finance and investing in order to remain debt-free.

Growing up and living in Baghdad until only a few years ago gave Boghos a passion for education, especially for women. She will attend Cal State Northridge next fall majoring in business administration.
