Led by the Tongva Tribal Dancers, dozens of children and their parents sweat through a scorching friendship dance this weekend during a celebration of Native American heritage at Stough Canyon Nature Center. Families on Sunday enjoyed traditional American Indian fare and took part in making their own crafts.
Under the auspices of the Gabrielino Tongva Tribal Council, the Tongva Dancers are made up of participants of all ages — elders to children — with their songs and handmade regalia all created from ongoing research into Tongva history and culture.
