The Imperial Valley Pumas Premier FC under-16 girls’ soccer team won the Presidio League championship by sweeping the Poway Vaqueros in a doubleheader in El Centro on Saturday.

With a four-point lead in the standings, the Pumas needed just to win or tie one of the two games to assure themselves of the title.

The Pumas won game 1, 2-1, and followed with a dominating 6-2 victory in game 2 at Corfman Middle School, finishing the regular season on a six-game winning streak.

In the first game, Poway took a 1-0 lead but a goal by the Pumas’ Baylee Vincent evened the score before halftime.

In the second half, Paulina Pantoja scored the game-winning goal and assured the Pumas the Presidio League title.

In game 2, the Pumas got three goals from Vincent, two from Pearl Imperial and one from Melissa Gutierrez in the 6-2 victory.

With two games left in the Presidio League U9 boys’ division, the I.V. Pumas are in a first-place tie with Albion SC. The Pumas were off this past weekend but have two upcoming games, including an 11 a.m. Saturday contest at Corfman Middle School in El Centro against the Chula Vista United Rangers. The Pumas close out the regular season at 11 a.m. on Sunday against the Riptide SC in Point Loma.

The U13 boys’ division is coming down to the final weekend of action with the I.V. Pumas in second place, trailing Express by three points. The Pumas defeated Manchester 4-1 on Sunday in El Centro and will close out the season with a 1 p.m. contest at Corfman Middle School against Riptide SC.

The I.V. Pumas U11 girls’ team is in third place in its division after suffering a 6-0 loss to the league-leading Rebels Soccer Club Abel on Saturday in El Centro. The Pumas will close out the regular season against the San Diego Fusion at 1 p.m. on Saturday in San Diego.

The Pumas U14 girls’ squad scored a 2-0 victory over Riptide SC on Saturday in its final game of the regular season and finished in sixth place overall.

The I.V. Pumas Premier FC and CalSouth are hosting a referee clinic at Corfman Middle School in El Centro on November 24 and 25.
