Burroughs in Coachella Valley Tournament: The Indians notched two victories Monday to advance to the semifinals of the event at Palm Desert High.
However, in the semifinal game Tuesday, Burroughs suffered a 12-3 loss to Peninsula.
Max DeAmicis went two for three with a home run in the loss.
In a game that featured five lead changes Monday, Burroughs (4-4) outlasted Palm Desert for a 10-5 win.
DeAmicis was perfect at the plate for the Indians, going two for two. He singled in the third and fifth innings.
Pitcher Cole Meyer recorded the win for Burroughs, allowing three runs over five innings. Meyer struck out one, walked four and gave up three hits.
The Indians began the tournament by defeating California, 3-2, by pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Brennan Brown was hot at the plate for the Burroughs, going two for three with two runs scored. He singled in the second and seventh innings.
Spencer Malden recorded the win for the Burroughs, tossing two shutout innings and surrendering no hits.
TRACK AND FIELD
Burbank in Maurice Greene Invitational: With a split squad, some of the Bulldogs athletes took part in the meet Saturday at Oaks Christian High and Andy Hurtado broke a school record.
Hurtado, a senior, broke the school record in the discus with his throw of 159 feet 6 1/2 inches, good for second place.
Other Burbank top-five finishers included Martin Swan, who was first in the boys' freshman-sophomore 110-meter hurdles in 16.57 seconds and second in the 300 hurdles in 43.58; Josh Cantong, who was fifth in the varsity boys' 400 in 50.6; Noah Powell, who placed third in the boys' freshman-sophomore triple jump with a 38-5 effort and was third in the high jump (5-6), Andre Poladian, who was third in the boys' freshman-sophomore pole vault (9-3); and Julia Newton, who was third in the girls' varsity pole vault (9-3).
Burbank in Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions: Burbank split squads on Saturday, with its top distance runners competing at the event in Azusa.
Candela Fernandez broke a girls' freshman-sophomore school record by clocking 11 minutes, 2.95 seconds in the 3,200 meters.
Other fine performances came from Arsen Mkrtchyan in the boys' varsity 800 (1:57.78), Adam Navar in the boys' freshman-sophomore 800 (2:02.37), Sam Gorman in the boys' freshman-sophomore 800 (2:03.35), Gabriel Ellman in the boys' varsity 3,200 (9:28.6), Ethan Moskowitz in the boys' varsity 3,200 (9:31.93), Zeke Isbell in the boys' freshman-sophomore 3,200 (9:53.64) and Jonas Macromalis in the boys' freshman-sophomore 3,200 (10:16.5).
Burroughs in Maurice Greene Invitational: The Indians had first and a third-place finishes in the varsity portion of the meet Saturday at Oaks Christian High.
The winning effort was turned in by the boys' distance medley relay team of Ricky Mendez, Robert Martinez, Everth Vargas and Shane Thompson, who won the race in 10 minutes, 58 seconds.
Corwin Scherer placed third in the boys' varsity 300 hurdles in 41.59.
Niko Guerrero had a fine day in the boys' sophomore-freshman portion of the meet. Guerrero won the 100 (11.36) and the 200 (23.04) and was second in both the long jump (18 feet 2 1/2) and the triple jump (39-4 3/4).
