A 24-year-old man running a political booth outside Chevy’s restaurant in Burbank Tuesday was attacked by a man who was swinging a metal pipe at him while uttering death threats, police said.
The victim, who works for American System Publications, was reportedly sitting in a folding chair in the 600 block of San Fernando Boulevard at 2:20 p.m. manning the booth when the suspect approached, swinging the metal pipe at the victim’s head while yelling, “I’m going to kill you,” said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
Details on the political group were not immediately available.
The victim reportedly tried to fight the man off, while the suspect continued to hit him with the pipe and yelled, “Get out of my way or I’m going to put you in the hospital,” Ryburn said.
A 29-year-old woman, who is a student at Pasadena Community College, tried to intervene, only to be struck several times by the pipe.
The victim pulled out his cell phone and took photos of the suspect, who fled from the scene in a white Toyota Prius, Ryburn said. The victim, who was reportedly left with bruises on his back and left arm, also took photos of the suspect’s car and license plate.
The suspect -- described as a white man in his 50s, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, 200 pounds and bald -- remained at large Wednesday afternoon. He was wearing glasses and a gray T-shirt at the time of the attack, Ryburn said.
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call Burbank police at (818) 238-3210.
