A pair of strangers who tricked an 81-year-old Burbank woman into using her phone and restroom Thursday made off with $125 and jewelry, police said.
At 1:10 p.m., the Burbank woman answered a knock at her door in the 800 block of Walnut Avenue, to find a woman asking to use the victim’s phone. While the suspect was using the phone, the resident answered another knock at her door. This time is was a man asking to use the restroom, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
The woman later told police she thought the pair was related.
The female suspect hung up the phone, and after both suspects used the restroom, they left, police said.
The resident subsequently noticed $125 missing from the wallet in her purse, and a ring and diamond-studded watch missing from her dresser.
Both suspects were described as Latino and roughly 30 years old, Ryburn said. The woman had black hair and was about five feet, four inches tall. The man was about five feet, five inches tall.
Police cautioned residents against inviting strangers into their homes.
“If you don’t know them, do not allow them in the house,” Ryburn said. “Call us immediately – we absolutely want to know who these people are and identify them.”
