Police on Tuesday were investigating reports of possible bones discovered near a Stough Canyon hiking trail in Burbank, authorities said.

Witnesses called police in the late afternoon after discovering what appeared to be bones while hiking in the area, said Burbank Police Lt. John Dilibert.

Police closed off the area and alerted Los Angeles County coroner's officials, who will continue the investigation in the morning, he added.

Additional information was not immediately available.
