Hipsters are making beer more expensive, or at least that’s the argument that’s been popular the last couple of days. But the brewing industry -- run by enormous multinational conglomerates -- has been planning price hikes for years.

  9. The booming Michigan business of beer

Move over, Budweiser, Coors and Sam Adams. It's time to make (more) room for Michigan craft beers. These days, it's hard to find a bar that doesn't serve a Michigan made brew. Bell's, Founders, Arcadia, Jolly Pumpkin -- the list goes on and on. And...

  11. A newbie's guide to Chicago Craft Beer Week

How much does Chicago love its beer? Our craft beer week is 11 days long, if that's any indication. The fourth annual Chicago Craft Beer Week (May 16-26) is busier than past years, with 21 new breweries joining the lineup of tastings, tap takeovers and $4 pint nights. The schedule can seem a bit intimidating to newcomers, so we've mapped out the ultimate calendar for those looking to dip their toes into Chicago's thriving beer world. If you're planning to attend multiple events, download the free Chicago Craft Beer Week app (chibeerweek.com), which has a complete listing of the more than 400 events, plus neighborhood guides and a function that tracks your attendance, earns you points and could win you some swag at the end of the week. My advice to first-timers? Check out a bar you've never been to, drink plenty of water and clear your week of morning meetings. kbernot@tribune.com | @redeyeeatdrink

  13. Gluten-free expo: Gluten-free food worth trying -- beer, bread, more

A woman waiting to sample New Planet gluten-free beer asked, "Is it real beer?" And she wasn’t alone as people jammed the aisles at a gluten-free exposition in search of food and drink that tasted good but didn't make them sick.

  21. American Beer Classic: Microbrews meet the mainstream

  23. Irish whiskey's growth spurt

It used to be that everything we knew about Irish beverages could be explained over an intimidatingly dark beer with a half-inch head, or a quick dram of whiskey (shot, not sipped) poured from a green-tinted bottle.
