    Re: “Expressing frustration with Bob Hope Airport,” Mailbag, July 23. Your correspondent, Helen Palmer, has found out the realities of monopoly pricing at Burbank Airport. Over the past decade Southwest Airlines has gradually consolidated its position and now operates about 70% of the flights. Having originally established a reputation as a “low cost” carrier, Southwest now employs the same tactics as every other airline, that is to limit the number of seats available and charge as high a price as they can get. This is true for Northern California destinations as well. At least for now there is still competition at LAX in the Las Vegas market.
