5. Eat this? Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich

Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich: You know, when Daniel Burnham came up with his line about "make no little plans," this is probably the breakfast sandwich he had in mind. The audacity! Dunkin' Donuts is now serving a breakfast sandwich on a glazed doughnut — sliced lengthwise like a bagel to hold a fried egg dashed with black pepper and bacon slices, handed warm across the counter in a waxed-paper pouch, the latest entry in the taste trend of sweet plus savory. And? Sweet wins out. A warm glazed doughnut is a potent thing, and its sweetness pretty much overwhelms the egg, which is on the thin side, and even the salty bacon. This thing is a bit heavy, sticky and very much a doughnut. But it's not the caloric bomb you might think; at a claimed 360 calories, it's midway between the new McDonald's Egg White Delight McMuffin (250) and a Bacon, Egg & Cheese McGriddle (460). It remains a bold plan though. At Dunkin' Donuts stores; $2.49, more information at dunkindonuts.com

  23. Where to toast dad on Father's Day in the L.A. area

Drinking with dad is an underrated pleasure. After a whiskey or maybe a few beers he'll start to open up. He might tell you about that time in college when he got busted for something he once busted you for. He'll tell you how he fell in love with your mom, and about the trips they took before you were born. You might shoot a few rounds of pool, or walk to the restaurant across the street for a burger, but mostly you'll just hang out and talk. Fathers are best at being low maintenance, so this Father's Day celebrate dad by doing what he does best: relax. Here are a few places to do just that.
