1. Senate passes farm bill, moving debate to House

WASHINGTON (AP) - The last time Congress passed a farm bill, Democrats had control of the House and the food stamp program was about half the size it is today. That was five years ago. Conservatives calling for an overhaul of the domestic food aid...

  3. Can Marco Rubio seduce his fellow Republicans on immigration reform?

The attempted seduction of Sen. John Cornyn by immigration reformers is akin to my effort to get Neil Patrick Harris, the best emcee ever of any awards show, to sing at my next birthday. No matter how much I offer him, he'll turn me down. That's the...

  9. Today's Buzz: Cut spending to pay for disaster relief?

President Obama traveled to Moore, Okla., on Sunday to tour the town devastated by a huge tornado that killed 24 people and destroyed thousands of homes, two schools and a hospital. The president consoled residents and assured them that the federal government would provide them long-term assistance. Recovery from the storm could run into the billions of dollars. But some members of Congress, including Republican U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, have argued that the cost of federal disaster aid should be offset through cuts in other areas of the budget to avoid adding to the deficit. Do you agree, or do you side with critics who say disaster victims shouldn’t have to wait while Congress looks for cuts? Or should Congress set aside more money ahead of time for disasters, so that possible cuts or borrowing aren’t an issue? Talk about it!

  19. Chan Lowe: The Oklahoma tornadoes

Having spent nine years in Oklahoma, I found much about that state’s people to respect and admire—particularly their faith and their resiliency, which are intertwined in ways not understood by those who have never lived in the Bible Belt. They always seem to be given more than their share of acts of God and man to endure. It was so with their forbears, as it is now. This does not make their pain any easier, but it makes it survivable. My prayers are with them.
