  1. Baltimore Pride 2013 to feature mass wedding

In a year when Maryland's same-sex couples can, for the first time, legally marry, the organizers of Baltimore Pride 2013 decided some special celebrating was required. A landmark occasion, they reasoned, called for a landmark commemoration.

  5. South Africa's path to marriage equality

I can't say, of course, how the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on the same-sex marriage cases before it. But I can talk about how South African courts grappled with the issue in 2005, after a case was brought by a lesbian couple who had been denied the right to marry. As a justice on the Constitutional Court at the time, I was asked to write the judgment in that case, which led to South Africa's becoming the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage.

  7. Review: 'Married and Counting' takes gay marriage on the road

Perhaps more remarkable about the documentary "Married and Counting" than its enticing high concept — from December 2010 to April 2011, a gay male couple get legally married in every state that will let them — is how far same-sex marriage...

  9. IRS scrutiny of nonprofits is hardly an unusual practice

What the IRS did to the tea party movement was wrong. But isn't uncommon. Organizations, some of which receive federal, state and local government money, along with individual contributions generously donated by well-meaning supporters are always...

  11. Sen. Sessions on immigration bill's broken promises

The so-called Gang of Eight immigration plan now being considered by the Senate fails to live up to every major promise made by its sponsors. Far from improving the immigration system, their 1,000-page proposal would exacerbate many of its flaws. It would dangerously undermine future enforcement while imposing substantial burdens on taxpayers and taking jobs and pay from U.S. workers.

  15. Republican donors, RNC push in different directions

  21. The benefits of immigration reform

As an economist, an immigrant and a scholar of the effects of immigration on the U.S. economy, I find that few pieces of legislation have engaged me more than the proposal for comprehensive immigration reform that the full Senate will take up this week.
