The athletic program for the flagship school of the State of Florida higher education system, the Florida Gators are one of the most successful programs in the country in both athletic success and financial stability.

The Gators have spent 24 straight years in the Top 10 of the National All-Sport Rankings, a claim only UCLA can make. The program has also dominated the Southeastern Conference, claiming 175 championships since joining the league as a charter member in 1932. The Gators have won two national championships each in football and basketball and took both during the 2006-07 academic year, something no school has ever done. The football program also won the 1996 national title, and the basketball team won it all in 2006.

2006-07 was a typical year for UF, which had 11 teams finish in the nation's Top 10 and six win SEC championships. The Gators also operate under a $79 million budget, and its booster organization raised better than $37 million to the university to support academic programs.
