Some promising news in the fight against cancer.  The death rate from cancer in the United States is down substantially in the past two decades. According to the American Cancer Society, rates rose steadily in the 1900's peaking in 1991.  In 2009 statistics show the death rate was down by 20%,

There were declines in death rates for a number of major cancers including lung, colorectal, breast and prostate cancer.    The single biggest reason: a reduction in smoking. Improvements in early detection and cancer treatment also contributed, according to the American Cancer Society.
